Preparing for Your Newborn Session: Tips from a Raleigh Newborn Photographer
Preparing for your newborn photography session can ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. As a Raleigh newborn photographer, I want to help you capture these precious moments with ease. Here are some tips and guidelines to help you prepare for your session.
Before Your Session
1. Give Your Baby a Bath:
Giving your baby a bath the morning of the session helps them stay awake. This makes it easier for them to settle into a deep sleep once the session begins.
2. Dress Baby in a Onesie:
Dressing your baby in a onesie makes it easy to transition them when you arrive. This also prevents startling them during outfit changes.
3. Feed Your Baby:
Try to feed your baby before you head to the session or right before we begin. A full belly makes for a happy and sleepy baby, which is ideal for capturing those serene newborn photos. If your baby becomes fussy during the session, we will take breaks for feedings and snuggles. The session is always baby-led, so if your baby needs a moment, we will take the necessary time.
What to Bring
I keep extras of the things new mothers typically need, but here are some essentials to bring:
Diapers
Wipes
Pacifier
Extra formula (if needed)
Blanket
Sentimental items (anything you wish to include in the photos)
During the Session
Sessions are always baby-led and can take up to 2 to 3 hours. This allows plenty of time for family photos, props, and table posing. Your baby's safety is my #1 priority, and I take every precaution to ensure they are comfortable and secure throughout the session.
What to Wear
Neutrals and soft colors photograph best and keep the focus on your baby. It will be warm in the studio to keep your baby comfortable since they cannot regulate their temperature as newborns. I suggest dressing in layers so that you can stay cool while ensuring your baby is cozy.
Final Thoughts
I can’t wait to work with you and your family to create beautiful, lasting memories of your newborn. By following these tips, you’ll be well-prepared for a smooth and enjoyable session.
